270 pages later and I still can´t believe how gullible and, quite frankly, stupid the female main character is:


Frances lets herself getting caught by the Gestapo? I´m not sure if the English knew in 1939 just how dangerous the Gestapo was. But still, if you know that the Nazis are after you and you know that you have been followed all the time, you wouldn´t throw caution at the wind like she does.

I still enjoy the oppresive atmosphere of this book, though. As much as something like that can be enjoyable.
